English 3-(section 5, 7, 9)

date (12 September 2018) Note the format!

                                Title (Cultural Iceberg)

Using your written graphic organizer, you are writing a four-paragraph essay.
Introduction:  Begin by defining the physical nature of an iceberg
Explain how an iceberg is analogous to culture.
Write a thesis statement that the culture you have chosen reflects both the surface and deep aspects of the cultural iceberg.

Paragraph 2: Using details from your graphic organizer, explain some of the surface aspects of the culture you chose. Make sure to use powerful imagery (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling), so that the reader / audience can relate to these experiences.
                              transition word
Paragraph 3: Here you will transition into the deep culture experiences. Begin your paragraph by clarifying the differences between the two. Now following your completed graphic organizer, explain some of the aspects one finds in deep culture.
                             transition word
Conclusion: This paragraph begins with concise summary, but the most important part here is to give the how or why what you have written about is important. Why should your audience care? This gives meaning to your words!

Don't forget that transition words are used within paragraphs
